CRO’s and Clinical Research lead our list of hot topics this week!

1.  Trial sponsors and their contract research organization (CRO) partners are turning to risk-based monitoring as the new frontier for clinical trial productivity.  Risk-based monitoring represents a smarter way forward.  It focuses on risk factors with the intent of conducting clinical trials more efficiently and cost effectively, while protecting patient safety, data integrity, and supporting compliance.

2.  Diversity is needed in clinical trials.  More African Americans need to participate in clinical trials.  A whole host of health disparities remains unaddressed, including Alzheimer’s — a disease that African Americans are two to three times more likely to develop than non-Hispanic whites.

3.  This is probably the biggest story of the week in the industry, private equity smiles on a CRO!  European private equity outfit Cinven has stepped up to buy the majority of long-rumored target Medpace, trading $915 million for an undisclosed controlling stake in the CRO.
